2002 was a break through year for Cristie - during which she captured her first LPGA Tour title, garnered eight Top Ten finishes, and played a pivotal role on the US Team that captured the Solheim Cup (women's equivalent of the Ryder Cup). Since then Cristie’s game has gone from strength to strength. In 2006 she proceeded to win the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic firing a career-low 61 (-10) during the second round, which was the lowest round on Tour in 2006. She also had a career-high with 19 top-10 finishes, including two additional runner-up finishes at the Florida’s Natural Charity Championship and the State Farm Classic. In 2007 Cristie claimed her first major title at the U.S. Women’s Open and has thereby fulfilled one of her long term goals. She is currently number 6 in the ADT Official Money List and is sure to continue to climb the rankings.
Cristie's amazing rise through the golfing ranks is matched only by her remarkable accomplishments away from the golf course. In 2005, Cristie applied this steadfast determination toward tackling breast cancer, which recently struck her mother, through a program called Birdies for Breast Cancer. Cristie will personally donate $50 for every birdie she records on tour to breast cancer research. In 2006 Kerr Received the LPGA Komen Award for donating more than $250,000 through her Birdies for Breast Cancer program toward breast cancer research.
Cristie’s incredible accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. She has been the focus of national media attention and is a fan favourite on the tour. Her dynamic personality and ‘never give up’ attitude continues to make her a role model for people from all walks of life. |
