NICOLAS LAPENTTI
The Ecuadorian no. 1 represents the best of tennis, on and off the court. A tenacious athlete and a generous statesman of the game, Nicolas is among a generation of premier stars with a string of successful seasons. He has held a career high ATP ranking of 6 and has been a member of the Ecuadorian Davis Cup team since 1992. In 2007 this Ecuadorian No. 1 finished outside the Top 100 while achieving a quarter-final finish in Kitzbuehel and claiming a title in Grenoble.

He is also a respected role model in the sport, receiving the Medal of Congress from Ecuadorian President Carlos Falquez in 1999, declaring Nicolas an honorary ambassador of the country.

Away from the court, 2000 was a special year for Lapentti, who started the "Nicolas Lapentti Foundation" in Ecuador. As part of the foundation, Lapentti first approached the schools and gave away 1000 small wooden racquets for the children.
