He came to prominence first with Boca Juniors in the Argentinean League but continued to gravitate towards the English premier league with an interim stay in Serie A. It was here he helped Parma and Lazio win the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup. In 2004--05 Verón was loaned from Chelsea to Inter. With Inter, he won the 2005 and 2006 Coppa Italia making it evident that he has already enjoyed a successful and extensive career, playing top-shelf football in the world's most difficult leagues.
In mid-2006, Verón made it known that he wished to return to Argentina for the 2006-2007 season. He received offers from Boca Juniors and River Plate, but has chosen to return to his boyhood club Estudiantes de la Plata, of whom he is a declared fan (he has made significant donations in the past to upgrade the club training facilities). |
